The Library has three audience recordings.
The first is very good, compromised only by a clipped set and some occasionally obtrusive audience chatter. The beginning of Million Miles is clipped. Otherwise, clean, complete, and problem free. A remarkable tape when one considers this was the taper's first attempt at live recording. Thanks, Josh! Dubbed 04/03/98. 90 min.
The second is a fair, but rather strident (As the taper suggests, judicious use of a graphic equalizer is called for here.), recording. There's a six or seven second dropout midway through Absolutely Sweet Marie. Also expect the occasional rough edit between sets. Of the recording, the taper, Robert, wrote: "I was at the cleveland OH feb 14 toledo OH feb 15 cincinnati OH feb 19 and Fairfax VA feb 22 shows and all of them were just under ninety minutes. I recorded cleveland and toledo with a less qualified recorder and i am still trying to clean them up possibly re-recording through open air and a good stereo with a little E.Q. I will see what happens..." I asked Robert to send a dub of the Master "as is" - warts and all. He kindly obliged. In a note included with the copy, Robert goes on to say: "The Feb 15 show has less distortion due to sitting farther away. On Valentines Day in Cleveland I was 20 rows back so it was too loud." Thanks for thinking of the Library, Robert. Dubbed 04/03/98. 90 min.
The third is a fair, but rather muddy, recording and benefits considerably from graphic equalization. Regarding the quality of the sound, John, the taper, wrote: "due to cheap equipment that depends on my seat location, quality is sub par." The tape is further compromised by occasional audience chatter, and three clipped sets. the first few seconds of the first (Absolutely Sweet Marie) and the end of the eighth (Tangled Up In Blue) and last (Rainy Day Women #12 & 35) sets are clipped. Thanks for sharing this, John! Dubbed by JA 04/??/98. 90 min.
